Things To Do Near Chinatown London

Our last day in London! We didn’t have much of a game plan today….. weather is quite wet but, we’ve always made a point not to let a little rain deter us so, we chose to head in the direction of Covent Garden and just see what unfolds.

The Underground system in London is wonderful (much of Europe really) — so easy to navigate and an efficient way to get around the city. One of the tools we find our selves using over and over again is the Citymapper app. They call themselves the “Ultimate Transport App” and we’d agree. You enter where you are and where you’d like to be —— do you want to walk? Take a car? or the Train?…. and it will give you step by step instructions — It’s great! There are quite a few cities you can use the app in (we even use it locally at home in San Francisco). Don’t see your city on the app yet? Not to worry, you can vote for the next city they map out here !

As we made our way towards Chinatown — crossing through Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden — we found ourselves getting a bit nostalgic…… remembering past London trips with our three at home. We have so many fond memories of seeing the city through their eyes.

Those memories seemed to break open the sky……. the rain dried up, clouds melted away and the sky turned blue…. we celebrated with a few obligatory phone booth photos!

Made our way around Chinatown a bit — picking up a few souvenirs for the kids and just basked in all of the sights and sounds of London….

We soon realized we weren’t far from Savile Row —- the place where James Bond is made of…. For Kevin, stomping grounds for suits galore. He was in heaven! Savile Row has store after store of beautifully tailored bespoke suits for men. We saw handsome suits in every hue and fit. And, we got a kick out of watching the tailors through the windows — they worked feverishly at their machines hemming and sewing. No suits for Kevin this time around but, he has his eye on a few when we return.

We ventured a few blocks over to Regent Street……. Shoppers paradise! Here you’ll find stores that fit every budget and taste. And, many names you find at home in America as well as other new trendy stores I’ve never heard of. Kevin found several dress shirts that he liked and I was able to find a pair of robin’s egg blue boots for our daughter, Moriah — they are very chic!

With shopping bags in hand, our day concluded —- time to fit everything in our luggage! We bid you a fond farewell London. You’ve been so welcoming. Until next time……..

Happy Travels!
